Well, the feature it requires is the &#8220;<em>Register taxonomy site wide field added event receiver<\/em>&#8221; hidden site scoped feature.<\/p>\n<p>To enable, open up Windows PowerShell and type either of the following:<\/p>\n<pre lang=\"powershell\">\r\nEnable-SPFeature -identity \"73EF14B1-13A9-416b-A9B5-ECECA2B0604C\" -Url http:\/\/localhost\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>or<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<pre lang=\"powershell\">\r\nEnable-SPFeature -identity TaxonomyFieldAdded -Url http:\/\/localhost\r\n<\/pre>\n<p>Both commands do the same thing, one uses the identifier of the feature, the other the name &#8211; choose whatever you find easier to remember \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll only get this issue if you are using a site that isn&#8217;t based on one of the following:<\/p>\n<p>GLOBAL<br \/>\nSTS#0<br \/>\nSTS#2<br \/>\nMPS#0<br \/>\nMPS#1<br \/>\nMPS#2<br \/>\nMPS#3<br \/>\nMPS#4<br \/>\nWIKI#0<br \/>\nBLOG#0<br \/>\nSGS#0<br \/>\nBDR#0<br \/>\nOFFILE#0<br \/>\nOFFILE#1<br \/>\nSPS#0<br \/>\nSPSPERS#0<br \/>\nSPSMSITE#0<br \/>\nSPSNEWS#0<br \/>\nSPSNHOME#0<br \/>\nSPSSITES#0<br \/>\nSPSREPORTCENTER#0<br \/>\nSPSPORTAL#0<br \/>\nSRCHCEN#0<br \/>\nPROFILES#0<br \/>\nCMSPUBLISHING#0<\/p>\n<p>So, for example, the <em>Blank Site<\/em> template would produce the &#8220;<em>The required feature is not enabled for this column type<\/em>&#8221; message.  The reason it works for the listed templates is because the <em>Taxonomy feature stapler<\/em> farm scoped feature <a href=\"http:\/\/msdn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/library\/ff382738(v=office.12).aspx\" title=\"staples\" target=\"_blank\">staples<\/a> the <em>Taxonomy Field Added<\/em> feature to the site templates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re trying to add a managed metadata column to your site, you may see the text &#8220;The required feature is not enabled for this column type&#8221; in the Term Set Settings. section.
